Please take a good look at it, figure out where you think you'd like to camp (If you've been before and know the land) and make plans with your friends to meet up. The entire festival grounds are divided into vegetable patches to make it easier for you and your friends to find each other. Each vegetable patch has a shuttle stop so you know where you and your stuff will be dropped off.

We highly recommend taking some time now and figuring out where you'd like to be camped. It will make the entrance process that much easier for you and your friends.

I am a big fan of the show Teatro Zinzanni, as well as the Fabulous Yard Dogs, seen both several times. I am out to the City is to do some research with a producer friend of mine. We are interested in doing a cirque style dinner theatre in Atlanta. We will be attending the TZ show on Sunday the 11th. Any feedback on what else to check out while in the City, especially in regards to live performance like cirque style live performance, vaudeville/burlesque would be most appreciated.

THE YARD DOGS were the BEST Show at Earthdance.
The whole show was a tribute and honor to entertainment.
The timing was impeccable, beginning
with that First ROck and Roll song and continued ALL thoughout the show.
Every person, every note, every cue was a pure delight.
Vaudville, cabaret, rock and roll, magic, and suffering, it was all mashed in
together.
It is the first time I saw a show where it looked like the performers were having
as much fun or MORE fun then the audience.
On the flip side, I feel that everyone in the audience
could relate to one of the performers...., every guitarist within range
wanted to be on that stage during the rock and roll songs. or
every girl wanted to be one of the fan dancers, the sexy trombone player,
or the drum master. The audience keep wanting to commune with Micha, as if
saying his name made us all one.
Great, Great SHOW. Please, makes lots of money and go to Europe.
Well, if you came back to San Francisco, we would roll out the red carpet
for you.

I love Tour de Fat, hubby and I rode the bicycle parade course in both Seattle and Portland last year, and saw the Yard Dogs and Marching Fourth Band, and my new favorite band Drums and Tuba. Absolutely loved Yard Dogs! Hey, I even got myself a YD burlesque t-shirt......Loved the chainsaw juggling! that was killer!

My question is: Is bellydancing included in your show this year?
Much love!

I called the album "Mind Bombin" not because im blowin people minds. Its is an ode to my youth growing up on the streets of the UK as a Graffiti deviant and yet it reflects the shifts in my socio/spiritual political outlook as i made my way out of the streets to the west coast of America.

BOMBIN; A QUICK CRASH COURSE IN DEVIANCY.

"Bombin" is a term used to describe going out and painting illegaly on a wall, train or some other form of private property. Bombin is a kind of fugitive act, claiming your personal presence amongst a landscape dominated by control and ownership. My crew and i known locally as T.C.K. (The Creative Kings) would go out on early morning Bombin raids to paint our newly created artwork on some pristine wall. The rush and feeling of accomplishment was addictive (as was dodging police), pushing the boundaries and refusing to live under the rule of law. The word would spread and before too long other Graffiti artists would come and check your work, creating both notoriety and respect. I was amongst an underground network of renowned artists that included the likes of Goldie (the now Drum & Bass icon), Madtempa (TRS) and Desire (TWC) to name a few.
In hindsight being engaged in this form of subversive activity gave me chance to look at and challenge the way our actions are governed and controlled. Most of us tend to simply accept these laws, unconsciously being given our prompts in life from a governing agent. Without challenging and in some cases breaking these laws we have no chance of discovering our own parameters as human beings and the full extent of our power. Our city streets, for example, the space some of us choose to inhabit, do not belong to us but those who govern us. We are in fact alienated from our own surroundings and our connection to time, place and earth. Individuality and personal presence are kept to a minimum in favour of efficiency and speed. The act of "Bombin" reclaims your space within the city and turns that which alienates and subjugates you into your freedom and your platform for expression.

MIND; DO YOU OWN YOURS?

Last year i went to hear a talk given by Chuck D, Public Enemys front man at Standford University. It was all great but one thing he said stood out to me.....

"Mind is the new Real estate of the 21st Century".

That stopped me dead in my tracks. Our attention is constantly being pulled at and fought for. Even if it for a split second if they have your attention they have you. Corporations and companies are constantly looking to set up shop in our minds with extensive media campaigns that play with subtle and not so subtle subconscious drives. In the same way that our physical space is controlled so too is our psychic space. In this type of environment i believe it is more important than ever to create autonomy over our own minds. The Mind is the last bastion of individual freedom, physical space being subjugated to the rule of law. But the more we let these influences into our minds and shape our behavior the more we surrender our sovereignty over ourselves.

This album for me is no different from those early morning bombin raids but instead of a pristine wall the territory instead is that of "Mass Mind", our collective psychic body, a landscape which is becoming more and more controlled by big business and less about the individual. Its definitely not about "blowin peoples minds" (i mean, please, im not that cheesy) but if it does that for you.....wicked. Its about the individual fugitive act of reclaiming personal power in the face of forces which do not want you to discover the fullest extent of your power, but to tap into it, siphon it off and redirect it. The mind when focused, empty (you try emptying your mind) and calm has no limits. You can do anything, make anything happen....truly......

.....but how deep does the rabbit hole go?

Here on the West Coast, we have a particularly unique situation and demographic of people. I'm specifically referencing this community of artists, activists, bohemians, spiritual practitioners, fashion designers and deviants of every shape and size. The freedom, openness, forward-thinking and rebellion of this community is the very reason I consider this community home. I have never before met a group of people so rich in talent that also embodies the intention and capacity to make positive changes on this planet. Yet, this potential to effect change, in my opinion, is unfocused and thereby ineffective. And so, I intend this message to serve as a call to action; to move forward from the constraint of apathy and truly consider the means for change. I also welcome your responses to the following essay and hope this will instigate open debate.

REBEL ENERGY vs REBEL CHIC

Truly, we are custodians of "Rebel Culture". This culture originated in the efforts and sacrifices of those who have come before us; I speak, naturally, of the Civil Rights movements that precede us, including the Black Panther party, the Hippie movement and the student uprisings of the 60s, just to name a few. These movements, creations in response to the ills of their time, won freedoms for the community and stood as examples to the world of the "power of the People" over repressive government power.

Here we are, once again at a truly pivotal moment in history, where institutional power seeks to fortify its walls and strengthen its grip at the expense of the people of the world. Let us be reminded that Veitnam II is well and truly underway (we all love a
sequel; as if we can't learn our lesson first time round). Here we are, a community with this vast potential to make a change, to hold government and public conscioussness accountable and yet ...

....where is the movement, where is the change?

I am aware that, as an underground community, our movements are somewhat "covert" in nature. The mainstay of our
dissent goes relatively unseen and unacknowledged by society at large. And rightly so. The foundation and framework
to build a powerful movement that flies in the face of mainstream consciousness will need extensive preparations to maintain its off-the-grid approach. I know there are those out there who know what I mean. But there comes a point where our movements must leave the safety of the shadows and deploy within society at large.

PACIFISM, PEACE & CHANGE

Most of us within this community would like to believe that we are instrumental in creating change in our world. Many of us would cite the doctrine of Pacifism as our guide, wishing to approach societal change non-violently. I would argue, however, that the doctrine of Pacifism that we have accepted does more for social apathy and "sleepwalking" than serve to dismantle odious formations of power and control.

The doctrine of Pacifism, as exhibited by Dr. Martin Luther King for example, was successful, in part, because it was exercised against the backdrop of a more militant black nationalism: the Nation of Islam, when spearheaded by Malcolm X. This militant force demanded equality by the "ballot or the bullet". Under such a threat, institutional power of that era sided with the more civilized musings of a pacifist Christian movement.

Ghandi's "Ahimsa" also sought to pacify abusive power by drawing out the British Empire's abuse of power for the world to see, until it became so intolerable that no man could sit back and watch. Ghandi did this by confronting institutional violence head-on, without concern for himself. Although he did not directly attack his opponent with violence, he engaged the violence that was implicit in its formation and made it explicit. While it may be true that violence begets more violence, that does not mean that we should sit back and idly watch the current continuum of violence and the accompanying loss of freedom and civil rights perpetuate, so as to be free of violence in our own lives. I cite these examples to raise the question of what means will work within our particular era and society to effect change in our world. Ghandi's pacifism was designed specifically for its context and his people. The fact remains that it was a pacifism that did not yeild to power so as to avoid violent confrontation. It stood its ground and broke the law (law as idea, a collectively-agreed upon set of ideals to abide by in order to maintain a society).

CALLING A SPADE A SPADE ...

Both Ghandhi and Reverend King knew that the only way to change the face of power was to confront and threaten it. They knew that to change the law, they had to break the law. With non-violent means, they threatened the law and thereby stood as a threat to prevailing formations of power. Their "brand" of pacifism was mobilized and, one could even say that it was aggressively actualized. The brand of pacifism we see in this culture and, closer to home, within our own community, does nothing to pacify power ... it is us who are pacified. Why would we want to change anything? We are comfortable with the way things are. As long as we point towards a sentiment of rebellion, we can satisfy adolescent cravings to be cool and to be part of some revolutionary underground, exhibiting revolutionary chic, performing a kind of revolutionary theatre without risk to ourselves. This community has the potential to be the revolutionary underground movement of our times, but I'm a bit wary of its true underpinnings; At the moment, our community seems more like a party in your parents backyard, comfortable and protected from the horrific realities outside, than a mobilized movement for change.

Please don't misunderstand; I am not saying that we should all go out and bomb the White House. I am merely sharing my understanding and interpretation of what has worked and what did not. With that said, I do believe violence may be a tool that could assists in our struggle, if we are serious about changing the structure and composition of power. Therefore, we should be open to using it within in the right context. Again, I am drawing the distinction between a cosmetic revolution, as opposed to changing the way we think, relate, act, react and the structure of society.

OUR LEGACY OF DISSENT

Ironically, I feel that the cosmetic sentiments toward revolution has actually attracted us and brought us together ... we all share a similar resonance. But I also feel that those cosmetic sentiments stand to scupper and dissolve any real movement focused on change. They are not substantial enough to carry us through and, in fact, at their core, are divisive to any real radical momentum. They have served their purpose, but cannot be the sole focus of our attention ... that is, if we are are serious about change. I believe that, if we can really unify and mobilize as a group and as a family, we could offer something beautiful to the world and reinvigorate the legacy of dissent which has been bequeathed to us. This legacy needs to be exercised and practiced if it is to continue to exist. We, as part of this community, are the direct descendants of this lineage. We stand on the backs of those who came before us, which is both an honour and a challenge. Let us not be negligent of this, and let us honour the continuum and vow to keep it alive. Our freedom to celebrate has been fought for. If we do not give it full expression, i.e. if we limit it to a style, it shall die, denied of its true "Rebel Energy", a force that moves mountains, shakes crowds and topples empires.

unexpected around here. We just flew our entire show
to Portugal and it WORKED. Our magic chicken Josephine
Baker is laying eggs by the dozen. And in our
never-ending attempt to define exactly what it is that
we do, we have built an ENTIRELY new web site. The old
site has been scattered to the wind. Now we have more
room to daydream. And if all goes well, these
daydreams will be manifesting soon, on a stage near
you.

WE ARE TAKING THE SKELETON APART AND PUTTING IT BACK
TOGETHER AGAIN - THE NEW ARRANGEMENT MAY BE A BIT
UNUSUAL

WE SEE MOUNTAINS AND SUNSHINE - LAKES AND SLEEPING
ANIMALS

See you soon.

Well, here the Haight Street Fair is in 2007 with a small minority of squeky wheels making some noise about our fair.

In Pablo's passing a two year old group has increased their demands on us. Some folks from the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council (H.A.N.C.) have heard gossip of their intentions of either trying to take over the fair or force us under their control.

Members of the Haight Street Fair Board have sat in a few meetings with HAIA, CVIA HANC (the real group that represents the neighborhood, without having to say it) and a couple of other groups that are out of the haight village or have one member Impovement Group status.

Supivisor Ross, District 5; has hosted a few meetings for us. He has been helpful in trying to create some fair ground for everyone. With all of his efforts we are still in conflict with a group that does not act in good faith towards us.

In one meeting that Ross called in city hall a member of the HAIA, Michael O'Connor (Whom is a third owner of the nightclub, THE INDEPENDENT; on Divisidaro St) spoke out strongly against the Haight Street Fair. Thanks Michael O'Conner!

We went into our ISCOTT hearing last Thursday and the president Mr. Lee put a hold on our street closure permit hearing for two weeks.

Please spread this information out!

The attack on street fairs is an increase of killing SF culture.............I love my urban city very much............and do take seriously that WE here in SF are in the middle of a culture war right now.

Brad and the How Weird Street Fair got their permits after being rejected. But with huge new demands, their time was cut from 8pm to 6pm, and Brad cannot have his fair there in 2008!

To show some support you can come down to our hearing on:

THURSDAY MARCH 22ND @ 10am SHARP!
@ 1 South Van Nes Ave. 7th Floor San Francisco

Yeah, I think I know what you may have been thinking. You just may have thought that after the grandeur and beautiful insanity and straight-up HUGE BIGGY-BIG-ness of Novembers’ Bohemian Carnival, that we thought that we just couldn’t get any better than that, and decided to call it quits while we were ahead.

You’re silly. Us, QUIT? Pshaw. Pffft, and however you spell the raspberry sound, all aimed in your general direction for even considering something like that! Shame on you! No quitting. Not us, not a chance. There is absolutely NO way we could ever leave you without this beautiful escape into such a deliciously sexy realm of – um – delicious sexiness – and as a matter of fact, somehow, someway – the show coming up on December 16th is even going to be bigger. Ya hear me? BIGGER! CRAZIER! EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL! STRIPIER AND MORE CHECKERED! FLESHIER, SWEATIER, AND WITH MORE CAPITAL LETTERS THAN EVER BEFORE!

Didn’t think it was possible, did ya? When will you believe me that anything is?

Soulsalaam
www.myspace.com/soulsalaam
We're oh so ready to wiggle our asses to the fly beats of this widely respected Bay Area veteran. We're fortunate to grab him while we're able on his short stint back in the States from Sao Palo, Brazil. He'll be unleashing sets of new original tracks, mash-ups and remixes for your listening/gyrating pleasure.

Dj Zeph and MC Azeem
www.myspace.com/omrecords
together are one of the Bay Area's most acclaimed hip-hop Dj/MC combo's. In 2001, Zeph's first self-titled album produced the single "Rubber and Glue" featuring Azeem...the single hit #1 on the CMJ charts toping mainstream giant Jay-Z. Zeph released his second album in 2004 entitled "Sunset Scavenger" featuring hip hop heavyweights- Lyrics Born, Boots from the Coup, and Vursatyl of the Lifesavas as well as long time collaborator Azeem. In spring '07 Zeph and Azeem will release "Rise Up", their first collaborative full-length album on OM Records.

Loop!Station
www.loopthis.com
Robin Coomer and Sam Bass. One woman, one man, one voice, one cello, multiple layered 'loops' hand tooled and shaped into lovely, cascading, provocative orchestral compositions with an immediate soul-rocking palpability. Their shows are intense and captivating. When you get the album home and it sounds just like the show you just saw, it becomes very apparent that LOOP!STATION is operating in a world all its own. Vau de Vire Society is once again honored to collaborate on a performance piece to accompany the hauntingly gorgeous sounds of our favorite looping duo.

The Suicide Kings
www.myspace.com/touretteswithoutregrets
...coming off 2 consecutive years of packed monthly shows at their infamous TOURETTES WITHOUT REGRETS events at The Metro in Oakland, Jamie Kennedy, Geoff Trenchard and Rupert Estanislao combine their Slammin' poetry styles to feed you something you can't eat anywhere else in the Bay. These dudes are having to turn-away 150 heads on a thursday night...because the place "only" holds 350! Since forming in 2002, theyve performed live on HBOs Def Poetry Jam, UPN, 60 Minutes, NPR, Live 105's BFD and radio stations from the Mid-West to the Philippines. As individual slam poets, they share between them three Western Regional Slam Championships, three National Grand Slam Championships, and have won their way onto slam teams at the National Poetry Slam every year theyve competed since 1998. Jamie's great grandfather, Scientology cult founder L. Ron Hubbard would be so proud we're certain!

For this reason, I have established a non-profit public benefit corporation called Herakles Collective, with the specific purpose of providing low cost health insurance and social resources to the artist, healers and performers of the Caifornia community. We are a healthy conscious and progressive community and there is truly strength in numbers. The Collective's fees (insurance rates) diminish as our membership grows. If you are interested please message me with your age and if you are a smoker. Also please join the tribe: http://tribes.tribe.net/herakles
